Sexual Orientation, Marital, and Familial Status Discrimination and Harassment
Sexual Orientation, Marital Status, and Familial Status are “protected classes” under the Minnesota Human Rights Act. With regard to same-sex marriage, Minnesota law states that individuals, businesses, non-profits, or the secular business activities of religious entities cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation.
Example: An employer expressing a preference in hiring single people because they have fewer family responsibilities and are more likely to work long hours.
If you have experienced or are experiencing discrimination at work, contact Bertelson Law Offices at (612) 278-9832 to discuss what claims you may have.
